IBM Quantum Competition: ZIMK team among finalists
In January 2026, a team of young scientists from WIMiFT, “Poznan Team”, consisting of:
- Eng. Wojciech Michalak (intern at WIMiFT and master’s student at ZIiMK IBMiIK, supervisor: Dr. Gustaw Szawioła, Assoc. Prof. PP)
- MSc Eng. Marcin Klempka (assistant at WIMiFT and doctoral student at ZIiMK IBMiIK, supervisor: Dr. hab. Magdalena Elantkowska, Prof. PP)
- MSc Eng. Szymon Mieloch (doctoral student at WIMiFT in ZIiMK IBMiIK, supervisor: Dr. hab. Danuta Stefańska, Prof. PP, auxiliary supervisor: Dr. Gustaw Szawioła, Assoc. Prof. PP)
- MSc Eng. Jerzy Sobkowski (doctoral student at ZIiMK IBMiIK, supervisor: Dr. hab. inż. Przemysław Głowacki, auxiliary supervisor: Dr. Gustaw Szawioła, Assoc. Prof. PP)
completed the IBM Quantum Road to Practitioner (R2P) course in quantum computer programming. The course completion required validation of skills through a team-based software project covering AI-related tasks and physical materials simulations, consisting of several problem sets.
The WIMiFT team received the highest grade (Excellent), as the only team from Poznan University of Technology, with a high score of 200.
“Poznan Team” was invited by the course organizers to present its innovative solution to one of the project problems. On behalf of the team, Eng. Wojciech Michalak presented it at the course plenary session. All members of the team are former and current graduates of ZIiMK, and their diploma theses, as well as their current doctoral research, are related to Engineering, Metrology and Quantum Technologies.
